Akram Monfared Arya Poet

A lifelong journey through words, identity, and love.

As a teenager, Akram Monfared Arya was drawn to words. Writing became a natural way to express thoughts and emotions that were not always easy to articulate aloud. In the early 1970s, during a time marked by both personal and societal change, she began writing poetry.

Her poetry reflects a life lived between cultures, landscapes, and experiences. It carries memories and longing, often centered around themes of identity, belonging, and freedom. The work is both deeply personal and universal, speaking to anyone who has faced life’s challenges yet found the strength to continue.

Love, exile, loss, and hope are recurring motifs in her writing. For Akram, poetry is not merely a form of expression, but a way of connecting experiences - her own and those of others - through the power of language.

In November 2005, she published her ninth book, A Song of Love, a collection of poems written in English. The book reflects on existence, eternity, and the enduring power of love. Writing in English opened the possibility of reaching a broader international audience while preserving the emotional depth of her poetic voice.

Many of her poems have been published in collections, journals, and anthologies, both in Iran and internationally. In translation, her poetry reaches new readers while always retaining its emotional resonance and authenticity.

For Akram Monfared Arya, poetry is not simply an art form, but a way of bearing witness to life - giving voice to the unseen forces that shape the human soul and creating meaning in what might otherwise be lost.
