Akram Monfared Arya is a Swedish-Iranian artist known for her expressive paintings, rich use of colour and strong humanistic perspective. In addition to her work as an artist, she is also an author, poet, pilot and social commentator.
Akram began her active artistic practice in 2007, inspired by a lifelong fascination with nature, light and human expression. Her work draws from contrasts – the still whiteness of glaciers, the deep blues of the sea, the mystery of shadows and the vibrant spectrum of the rainbow.
Painting became a way to give form to what is often left unspoken, particularly the lived experiences, resilience and challenges faced by women across the world.
Akram has studied painting, watercolour, acrylics and drawing at institutions such as Folkuniversitetet and Midsommargården in Stockholm, as well as through private courses with established artists.
This diverse background has shaped a flexible artistic language that moves between figurative and abstract expression, balancing technique with emotion.
Central themes in Akram’s work include identity, freedom, love, resistance and belonging. Elements of nature often serve as metaphors for inner states and broader social questions.
Women’s lives and their position within different cultures remain a recurring focus, portrayed with both vulnerability and strength.
Akram Monfared Arya has exhibited her work in several galleries and cultural venues throughout Sweden, in both solo and group exhibitions. Her work has been recognised for its emotional depth and expressive power.
She is a member of the Swedish Writers’ Union and is affiliated with BUS (Copyright in Visual Arts Sweden).
